This is a Labrador tea plant.
The climate of a region affects the type of the vegetation that grows there. The Taiga Plains is in the Northern part of Canada, near the tundra area. It is cold, and there is thin topsoil. The thin topsoil allows coniferous trees to grow. Coniferous trees are evergreen and don't drop their leaves. Some examples of coniferous trees that grow in the Taiga Plains and Mackenzie River National Park are Paper birch, Willows, White spruce, Green alder, Balsam fir, Balsam poplar, Dwarf birch, and Jack pine trees. There are also many smaller plants that grow in the area such as Labrador tea, Cotton grass, Fire snag, Wild rose, and Feathermoss plants. There are many ways a forest fire can start. It could be because of lightning, or other natural causes. The Taiga Plains has many forest fires, and this affects the vegetation. Forest fires can kill plants and this means plants need to adapt to forest fires, to be able to regrow and recover. Some trees grow thicker bark, other plants protect their buds, so that it can survive. Vegetation is very important and it affects many things, such as the wildlife in the ecozone.
